Alternate weeks we take time to reflect on what Jesus did at the cross, following his exhortation to ‘do this in remembrance of me’, as we partake of a simple token meal. This is often referred to as ‘Communion’ or the ‘Lord’s Supper’. It is open to all who have placed their trust in Jesus; not-yet believers are encouraged to stay and observe.
This time is similar to the morning, but with fewer people (25 to 30) This make it easier to be more interactive and often involves dialogue and a measure of discussion about a topic or Bible passage.
Sunday Church ~ What to Expect
Mornings at 10am
There is usually a hubbub of conversation leading up to 10 o’clock as 50 to 60 folk greet one another. The ‘formal’ part of our time together is structured but relaxed, with opportunity for congregational singing as together we express our praises to God. There is a time for prayer and sometimes sharing by individuals.
Our other main focus is opening up the Bible together, as the basis for a sermon by someone who has spent time prayerfully digging into the meaning of the passage. Generally we work our way through one of the Bible books to understand its message. This means not only what it meant ‘to them there and then’ but also ‘to us here and now’.
There is a Sunday School for younger children and a crèche available.
Following the closing song (around 11:15 or so) there is opportunity to chat over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit or cake. This is an important part of our time together - after all church is family!
